Outdoor Youth Day
The concept is simple: “get kids outdoors!” Local outdoorsman George Cullers proposed the idea. Offer kids a chance to get hands-on experience with outdoor activities, at no cost, and open the door to a lifelong interest. Held at Charlton Park in Barry County, the event is open to everyone.

Household Hazardous Waste Collection
Saturday, September 7, 2024 from 9 am - 1 pm at the Barry Expo Center/Fairgrounds. Barry county residents can properly dispose of and recycle household hazardous waste, unused and expired medications, sharps, scrap tires, and electronics.
Plant Sale Pickup
Fall is a great time to plant natives! Over winter these plants will focus on root growth to bring you beautiful blooms in 2025. Choose plants based on your properties available sun and soil moisture, bloom color and period.
Native plants require less watering, filter pollutants, provide habitat and food for wildlife and pollinators, and stabilize soil with their extensive root systems. You can read more about the benefits of native plants here.
Order your native grasses, wildflowers, and select shrubs now then schedule your pickup between August 22-23, 9am - 5pm and August 24, 9am - 12pm.

Ben Savoie, District Forester: Ben has a B.S. in Forestry from Michigan State University and 8 years of experience as the District Forester for Barry, Allegan, and Ottawa conservation districts. He will discuss the benefits of forest management and public programs available for financial assistance, helping you make informed decisions about your land.
Sara Krieger, MAEAP Technician: Sara brings her extensive experience from working on her family’s farm and her deep knowledge of the Michigan Agricultural Environmental Assurance Program (MAEAP). She will talk about the benefits of MAEAP for farmers and offer valuable insights into wetland protections and management, even if your property doesn’t include forested areas.
A representative from Wittenbach Center will also be present to discuss their work in wildlife and habitat conservation, providing additional resources for enhancing and protecting your land.

Learn and Pull - Mile-a-minute Weed
Join us at Whitehouse Nature Center to learn about the highly invasive Mile-a-minute weed. First detected at the Nature Center in 2020, we invite you to familiarize yourself with this plant and help us pull this species along the trails.
This plant has barbs, and we will be off-trail, so please wear closed-toed shoes and long pants; wearing long sleeves and gloves and water is recommended. Some gloves will be available to those who need it
